Ted made his Olympic mark on Feb. 19, winning the gold medal in the giant slalom event and becoming only the second American in history to win two Olympic gold medals in skiing.
In a sport that measures results by the hundreds of a second, Ted Ligety destroyed his competition in Sochi, winning gold in the giant slalom and beating Steve Missillier of France, who won silver, by 0.48 seconds. Ted was ahead of bronze medalist Alexis Pinturault of France by 0.64 seconds.

Since 2006, Ted has perfected a new way of turning, leading him to produce fast times. “Starting to turn earlier and finishing later than most guys,” he explained, is what makes him successful.
Mid-turn, Ted’s body is near horizontal to the hill! This agility gives him great power and speed.
Ted, 29, trains in Park City, Utah.
