Men’s Halfpipe
You’ve got to see 15-year-old Ayumu Hirano of Japan who is Shaun White’s main competition in the event. Although he’s 5’2″ and weights in at 115 pounds, the kid’s literally a beast. Last year he was right on Shaun’s tail and even launched himself 24 feet out of the pipe. Simply incredible!

Slopestyle
You ain’t seen skiing like this! This event will showcase skiers as they jump and twist themselves through courses and earn scores for jumping the highest and landing the hardest tricks. They’re trying this sport out for the first time this year and it’s already been receiving a lot of buzz — the fans love it! The network has even decided to broadcast the trials one day prior to the opening ceremonies are set to begin.
Finals will air on Feb. 8 and 9, starting at 8 p.m. on NBC
Luge Team Relay
This relay race is simply insane because it’s the fastest and most dangerous. At their fastest, the best teams in this event can reach speeds up to 87 miles per hour. It’s an extremely difficult sport and with unbelievably high stakes — but all that means for you is that it’s an amazing sport to witness.
Takes place on Feb. 13 at 2:05 a.m. EST on NBC
Women’s Ski Jumping
This is a also a new event in this year’s games and it’s a highly anticipated one too. One of the names you’ll recognize is Lindsey Van (no, not Lindsey Vonn, though we understand the confusion). Lindsey, a trailblazer in the sport, is the leading gold contender who spent a decade trying to get the sport into the Olympics.

Women’s Slalom
Our very own Mikaela Shiffrin from Vail, Co. gives or country the best chance at bringing home the gold in alpine skiing. She’s a real talent and at 18 years old and she currently holds the world championship and World Cup titles in the slalom. Our girl will definitely have a target on her back going into this one.
