On Jan. 28, one of the most popular hair bands of all time sadly announced that they would be going on their last tour ever — but the way they’re ending their time together just proves that they really are the best ever.
When Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee formed Motley Crue in 1981, they had never expected it to become one of the largest and most popular rock and roll bands of the ’80s. So, while it breaks my heart that the band will never again be together on stage after this final tour, it makes me so happy that they’re respecting each other and their fans enough to go out the right way.
Motley Crue’s Exit Proves Their Amazing
“Other bands have split up over rancor or the inability of people to get along, but this is mutual among all four original members and a peaceful decision to move on to other endeavors and to confirm it with a binding agreement,” the band’s attorney Doug Mark said in a press conference on Jan. 28.
With 80 million albums sold and 33 years under their belt, the band decided to hang up their title, and sign a contract on it, stating that they would never go on tour again, no matter what.“Everything must come to an end,” Tommy, 51, said. ”We always had a vision of going out with a big fu–ing bang and not playing county fairs and clubs with one or two original band members. Our job here is done.”
Nikki Sixx added they didn’t want to “hobble off into the sunset, and Vince Neil explained they didn’t want “to be one of those bands that maybe have one guy left in it, or somebody’s brother.”
Final Tour Will Be Huge Success
And they are definitely going out with a bang! “The Final Tour” — which isn’t called a “farewell” tour because that implies they’d come back, will kick off July 2, 2013 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
It will include 72 shows, and tickets will be as low as $15, so that all the fans can have one last chance to see them again.
Alice Cooper, 65, will join Nikki, Tommy, Vince and Mick on the tour — “a match made in Armageddon,” as he called it.
I’ve got to say — I’m so excited for the last tour and feel that with the four of them signing a contract like that, it changes the way bands will do thins in the future — or at least I can hope.Motley Crue wouldn’t be Motley Crue if one of them passed away, if two went on tour, or any other crazy combination that other bands have tried.
Nikki didn’t name any one in particular, but made a good point that bands that do that kind of replacement-type thing and go back on tour, it isn’t fair to the true fans!
